Artist Statement

My photography is focused on emotional expression and how the figure is presented and interpreted. My artwork centers on the universal nature of feelings, as well as the isolation of emotions. While emotions can make an individual feel isolated, my work brings attention to the act of expression, and advocates for an acceptance of it. Everyone has their own personal story that others might never know, but we all experience the act of feeling. I believe it is crucial to acknowledge how we interact with one another, and reflect on how we are perceived. In my personal experience I have searched for physical cues when interacting with others to better understand them. It becomes necessary to not only listen, but to look. Everyone communicates differently, and by bringing focus to the process, the work forms a dialogue on how we communicate with one another. My goal is for viewers to feel an emotional connection that will trigger their own memories and experiences.
